The National Institute of Food Technology Entrepreneurship and Management, Kundli (NIFTEM-K), under the Ministry of Food Processing Industries, has inked a five-year Memorandum of Understanding with Massey University, New Zealand. This collaboration aims to bolster academic and research ties in food technology, processing, innovation, and higher education. The agreement covers various areas such as joint research projects, seeking external funding together, participating in seminars, exchanging faculty and researchers, and implementing student mobility programs.
Dedicated coordinators from both institutions will oversee the joint initiatives to ensure effective implementation. The MoU allows for a potential extension of another five years by mutual agreement. It also emphasizes safeguarding the intellectual property rights of both parties and lays the groundwork for potential future academic partnerships. The Ministry of Food Processing Industries highlighted that this partnership is anticipated to boost international academic cooperation, foster innovation in food technology, facilitate knowledge sharing, and create more opportunities for students, researchers, and faculty members from both organizations.
NIFTEM-K has been in the spotlight for introducing cutting-edge technologies to drive growth in India’s food processing industry. Noteworthy innovations by the institute include the SARTHI Technology, which integrates advanced digital technologies with sensors, and the development of a hybrid Drying and Biodegradable Film concept that eliminates plasticizers. Additionally, the institute has developed rapid detection kits utilizing nanosensors and enzyme inhibition principles to detect pesticides in tea and harmful compounds like acrylamides and aflatoxins.
Moreover, NIFTEM-K has played a significant role in empowering rural communities through its village adoption program, showcasing its commitment to sustainable food processing practices and technical expertise.
