Nisha Biswal Joins Excelerate Energy’s Board of Directors
Excelerate Energy, Inc., a leader in flexible liquefied natural gas (LNG) solutions, has announced the appointment of Nisha D. Biswal to its Board of Directors, effective January 21, 2025. In her new role, Biswal will contribute to the Audit and Nominating and Corporate Governance Committees, leveraging her extensive experience in international affairs and public policy.
Biswal’s distinguished career spans over three decades, including significant roles in both governmental and private sectors. Most recently, she served as the Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the U.S. International Development Finance Corporation (DFC), where she oversaw operations and strategy for a $60 billion government corporation. The DFC focuses on financing private-sector-led projects worldwide in areas such as energy, infrastructure, health, agriculture, and financial inclusion.
Reflecting on her tenure at the DFC, Biswal expressed, “It has been an honor to serve in the Biden-Harris Administration alongside DFC CEO Scott Nathan to help build a world-class development finance institution.” She added, “In my travels around the world, I have seen firsthand how DFC financing is improving lives, building critical infrastructure, advancing health and food security, and empowering entrepreneurs.”
Prior to her role at the DFC, Biswal was the U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs and the Assistant Administrator for Asia at the U.S. Agency for International Development. She also held leadership positions at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, where she led the U.S.-India Business Council and the U.S.-Bangladesh Business Council.
Steven Kobos, President and CEO of Excelerate Energy, welcomed Biswal’s appointment, stating, “Her extensive international background and experience guiding U.S. investments in developing markets aligns well with Excelerate’s strategy and plans for growth. Nisha also brings a wealth of experience specifically with respect to South Asia, which represents approximately 20% of the world’s population and a growing source of demand for global LNG supply.”
Expressing her enthusiasm for joining the board, Biswal shared, “I am excited to be joining the Board of Directors of Excelerate Energy, an American company advancing cleaner energy solutions in priority markets around the world. I am proud to be working with the fantastic leadership team at Excelerate.”
Excelerate Energy, headquartered in The Woodlands, Texas, specializes in providing flexible LNG solutions through its innovative floating regasification technology and infrastructure services. Since its founding in 2003, the company has expanded its operations globally, with a presence in locations including Abu Dhabi, Antwerp, Boston, Buenos Aires, Dhaka, Doha, Dubai, Hanoi, Helsinki, London, Rio de Janeiro, Singapore, and Washington D.C. This global footprint underscores Excelerate’s commitment to enhancing energy security and accessibility worldwide.
Biswal’s appointment follows the resignation of Carolyn J. Burke from the Excelerate Board after nearly three years of service. Burke’s contributions have been instrumental in guiding the company through significant growth phases, and her departure marks the end of a notable tenure on the board.
The inclusion of Nisha Biswal on Excelerate Energy’s Board of Directors is a strategic move that aligns with the company’s vision of expanding its global reach and impact. Her vast experience in international development and policy-making is expected to provide valuable insights as Excelerate continues to navigate the evolving energy landscape and strives to meet the growing global demand for LNG.
