NITI Aayog and the Ministry of Tourism have jointly introduced a roadmap to simplify regulations and enhance the ease of doing business in India’s tourism and hospitality industry. The initiative aims to attract investments and support sustainable growth in the sector. The report, titled ‘Unlocking Growth in Tourism and Hospitality Sector,’ was unveiled during a national workshop attended by key officials including Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat and NITI Aayog Member Rajiv Gauba.
The report provides a comprehensive evaluation of regulations impacting various segments within the tourism and hospitality sector, such as accommodation providers, hospitality establishments, and tour operators. It identifies challenges related to approvals, compliance requirements, and institutional coordination that hinder investment and project execution. Recommendations outlined in the report focus on simplifying regulatory processes, reducing compliance burdens, and enhancing inter-departmental coordination to facilitate the development of tourism infrastructure.
The workshop, which saw the participation of stakeholders from State Governments, industry associations, and online travel platforms, emphasized the crucial role of tourism in India’s economic growth. Union Minister Shekhawat highlighted the need to create a conducive environment for investment, expand tourism infrastructure, and enhance accommodation capacity. NITI Aayog Member Gauba stressed the importance of unlocking the sector’s growth potential by improving the ease of doing business to attract investments.
