Noida Police recently dismantled a gang that targeted commuters by offering them rides in their car and then extorting money from their bank accounts using UPI and digital payment methods. Four individuals were arrested in Sector-49, where they would deceive passengers, steal their belongings, and coerce them into transferring funds.
The police recovered several stolen items from the culprits, including an iPhone 16, a smartwatch, a charger, an Aadhaar card, and cash amounting to Rs 2,300. The gang’s modus operandi involved picking up unsuspecting victims, robbing them, and then manipulating them to transfer money from their bank accounts.
Following a complaint lodged by a man on June 29 at the Sector-49 police station, an investigation was launched, leading to the apprehension of the suspects near Sector-50 on June 30. The arrested individuals, identified as Amit, Nitin, Vivek, and Rishi, confessed to their involvement in the crimes and revealed their backgrounds as former drivers and laborers in Delhi-NCR.
Driven by the desire for quick illicit gains, the gang members would entice people into their car, steal their possessions, and coerce them into transferring funds if banking apps were found on their phones. The police are taking necessary legal actions against the accused to ensure justice prevails.
