Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has reached a significant milestone in freight transportation by successfully initiating the first-ever maize loading from Tufanganj station in West Bengal to Rudrapur City station in Uttarakhand. A total of 1,310.4 tonnes of maize were loaded from Tufanganj station on May 27, generating freight revenue of approximately Rs 30.21 lakh.
In May 2026, NFR witnessed a notable increase in maize loading traffic from stations under the Alipurduar Division, contributing significantly to freight movement and revenue generation. Various maize rakes were dispatched to different destinations, collectively earning around Rs 90.19 lakh in freight revenue.
This successful execution of new freight movements underscores the growing role of railways in strengthening agricultural supply chains and promoting inter-state trade connectivity. Northeast Frontier Railway’s commitment to expanding freight operations aims to provide efficient logistics solutions for farmers, traders, and businesses, emphasizing the reliability, cost-effectiveness, and eco-friendliness of rail transportation for agricultural commodities.
Northeast Frontier Railway, headquartered near Guwahati, continues to focus on enhancing freight operations to support regional economic development and sustainable freight mobility, particularly in the northeastern states, West Bengal, and north Bihar.
