The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has reached a significant milestone by introducing an IP-based Video Surveillance System (VSS) on the Tower Wagon at New Jalpaiguri (NJP) Depot in West Bengal. This system, utilizing advanced IP cameras, facilitates high-quality video transmission over wired and wireless networks for centralized real-time monitoring. The VSS initiative aims to bolster operational safety, security, and supervision of Tower Wagon activities at the depot.
The newly installed VSS at NJP Depot enhances operational safety and security through real-time monitoring of critical Tower Wagon activities, especially during maintenance and OHE works. By identifying potential hazards, ensuring safety protocol compliance, and utilizing recorded footage for analysis and training, the system contributes to continuous improvement and efficient supervision. The IP-based technology of the system enhances scalability, ease of maintenance, and workforce management optimization.
Northeast Frontier Railway’s commitment to technological advancement, safety standards, and project execution is evident through these achievements. The Railway Protection Force (RPF) of NFR demonstrated exceptional performance in December 2025, focusing on passenger safety, security enforcement, and humanitarian assistance. Through proactive vigilance and swift response, RPF successfully protected passenger belongings by apprehending individuals involved in theft cases and recovering stolen mobile phones worth approximately Rs 2.22 lakh.
