Notorious Chambal dacoit Jagan Gurjar, known for his criminal activities in Rajasthan’s Dholpur district and the wider Chambal region, was reportedly strangled to death by a fellow inmate at Ajmer’s High-Security Prison. The inmate, Vishnu, confessed to using a cotton towel to commit the act in Barrack No. 2, where they had been housed together for three months.
CCTV footage captured the two inmates cleaning the barrack and playing Ludo before the incident. Gurjar was found unresponsive when the barrack was opened for tea service, leading to the discovery of his death. The Civil Lines Police have initiated a murder investigation, causing a stir in the police and prison administration.
A judicial inquiry has been launched, with forensic teams collecting evidence from the scene. The body is under tight security at JLN Hospital’s mortuary, awaiting a post-mortem examination. Senior police and prison officials are overseeing the investigation and security measures at the prison.
