The National Testing Agency (NTA) has decided to cancel the NEET-UG 2026 examination that took place on May 3. The NTA stated that the decision came after reviewing information from Central agencies and law enforcement about potential irregularities. Following this, the exam will be rescheduled for a later date.
The NTA, in an official statement on social media, mentioned that the decision was made after analyzing inputs from investigative agencies and in coordination with Central authorities. The examination process was deemed unfit to continue based on the shared findings.
Moreover, the Government of India has entrusted the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) with a thorough investigation into the allegations related to the exam. The NTA assured full cooperation with the CBI and pledged to provide all necessary assistance for the inquiry.
Acknowledging the inconvenience caused by the cancellation and re-examination, the NTA emphasized the importance of maintaining the integrity of the national examination system. The agency highlighted that the decision was made in the best interest of the students and to uphold the trust in the examination process.
The NTA clarified that the registration data, candidature, and chosen examination centers from the initial cycle will remain valid for the rescheduled exam. Candidates will not need to re-register, and no additional fees will be charged for the re-examination. Additionally, the examination fee already paid will be refunded.
