The Odisha Cabinet has given the green light to various significant proposals, including the launch of the ‘Baraputra Aitihya Gram Yojana’. This initiative aims to transform the birthplaces of notable individuals in the state into heritage centers. The state government plans to develop these sites into heritage museums, along with infrastructure like libraries, conference halls, and open-air theaters.
Under the scheme, the government will also establish outlets to promote local cuisine, handicrafts, and handloom products. Additionally, cultural events and programs will be organized to highlight the lives and contributions of these individuals. The first phase of the project will focus on 25 distinguished personalities from Odisha, with each birthplace receiving financial assistance of up to Rs 15 crore for development and preservation.
The Odisha government emphasized that this comprehensive approach aims to conserve heritage, raise cultural awareness, and drive sustainable local development. Furthermore, the Cabinet approved a framework under the Bikashita Gaon Bikashita Odisha Scheme, promoting a more participatory approach in project approval. The revised process allows for need-based project proposals from PRI members, elected representatives, and civil society members, enhancing accountability by introducing a Defect Liability Period for projects exceeding Rs 10.00 lakh.
In addition to the Baraputra Aitihya Gram Yojana, the Cabinet also endorsed other critical proposals. These include the ‘UTKARSH ITI Yojana’, which focuses on upgrading five government ITIs into Centers of Excellence, and the ‘MMSBY – Installation of Smart Meters Phase-I’ scheme, aimed at ensuring the swift implementation of smart metering across the state.
