Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi emphasized the significance of Odia cinema as a representation of Odisha’s cultural heritage. He announced plans for a new Film Policy to enhance the Odia film industry’s growth and ensure artist welfare. The government aims to provide comprehensive support and security to artists in the industry.
Majhi highlighted the government’s recent discussions with the Odia film community to address industry challenges and enhance film quality. He promised forthcoming announcements to bolster artist protection and promote high-quality film production. The Chief Minister underlined the historical importance of Odia cinema and its global recognition through acclaimed films.
Acknowledging the technological advancements in filmmaking, Majhi praised Odisha’s filmmakers for their expertise in cinematography and visual effects. He revealed plans to upgrade Kalinga Studio into a premier digital and post-production facility, facilitating local talent access to advanced resources. Additionally, he invited filmmakers nationwide to explore Odisha’s picturesque locales for film production and boost cinema tourism.
Encouraging support for Odia cinema, Majhi urged filmmakers to blend Odisha’s cultural essence with modern storytelling. He emphasized the audience’s role in sustaining the industry by watching Odia films in theaters. The Chief Minister warned of strict actions against any attempts to sideline Odia films in cinemas, reaffirming the government’s commitment to safeguarding the Odia film industry’s interests.
At the State Film Awards Ceremony, veteran actor Shyamalendu Bhattacharya and actress Namrata Das were honored with the Mohan Sundar Deb Goswami Samman for 2023 and 2024, respectively. They each received a cash award of Rs 5 lakh. The event also recognized excellence in filmmaking across 62 categories for the years 2023 and 2024.
