Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi emphasized the revival of the Chief Minister’s Grievance Cell and efforts to prevent farmers’ suicides as the major accomplishments of his government’s initial two-year term. These initiatives have facilitated the resolution of public issues and enhanced farmer welfare through schemes like the Samruddha Krushak Yojana. Additionally, the government’s focus on providing financial support to farmers has significantly improved their livelihoods and reduced distress-driven suicides in the state.
Majhi outlined his future priorities, which include generating more job opportunities for the youth and addressing environmental challenges like El Niño. He also highlighted the government’s anti-corruption stance, particularly in dealing with chit fund scams by auctioning off properties of the accused and ensuring refunds to legitimate depositors. Furthermore, the Chief Minister mentioned the provision of monthly pensions to senior citizens and the administration’s commitment to bolstering social security measures.
In terms of regional development, Majhi reaffirmed the government’s dedication to ensuring balanced growth across North, South, and Western Odisha. Notably, a task force has been established for the North Odisha Development Council with a substantial allocation of funds. The delay in setting up the Western Odisha Development Council headquarters in Sambalpur was attributed to conflicting demands from different districts. The Chief Minister also announced plans to establish new skill development centers in Sambalpur and Berhampur.
Addressing ongoing disputes, Majhi mentioned the Kotia border issue with Andhra Pradesh, stating that the matter is under judicial review. He assured active monitoring of the situation and the deployment of an Additional District Magistrate-level officer for overseeing development. On the Mahanadi water-sharing conflict with Chhattisgarh, discussions are progressing at various levels, with a commitment from both sides to seek an early resolution.
Responding to questions about the untimely Rath Yatra organized by ISKCON, the Chief Minister stressed the sanctity of Lord Jagannath’s rituals and pledged to address the concerns of Odisha’s populace.
