Odisha Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati highlighted the importance of inclusive and dignified development for the Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs) in the state. He mentioned that achieving the vision of Viksit Odisha and Viksit Bharat requires progress for all citizens, especially those on the margins, with confidence and equal opportunities.
At a conclave on “Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs) of Odisha, Way Ahead,” the Governor stated that the holistic development of PVTGs is not just a social responsibility but a national necessity. He emphasized that empowering these groups would enhance Odisha’s contribution to India’s journey towards inclusive and sustainable development.
Odisha is home to 13 PVTGs, the highest number among all states in India, with unique tribal heritage. Governor Kambhampati stressed the importance of preserving their cultural identity and traditional way of life while ensuring access to education, healthcare, livelihoods, and infrastructure. He shared the inspiring story of Champa Raspeda, a girl from the Didayi community, who qualified NEET and secured admission to a medical college, showcasing the potential of talent with proper support.
The Governor praised the efforts of both Central and State governments in improving access to education, healthcare, livelihoods, and social security for PVTGs while safeguarding their rights and heritage. He also appreciated the Tribal Cell of Lok Bhavan for its initiatives and publications focusing on the socio-cultural and health status of PVTGs in Odisha. Governor Kambhampati discussed the implementation of welfare schemes and emphasized the importance of raising awareness among tribal communities about available government support.
