Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari led a high-level meeting to evaluate Odisha’s readiness for continuous rainfall due to a deep depression in the northwest Bay of Bengal. The Minister urged district administrations to stay vigilant round-the-clock and respond promptly to any emergencies. Emphasizing the priority of safeguarding human lives, he instructed officials to evacuate vulnerable individuals as needed and ensure essential relief measures like food, water, and shelter.

Pujari highlighted the importance of coordination among emergency response departments for efficient on-ground actions. District officials from various regions participated in the meeting via video conferencing, updating the Minister on their preparedness efforts. The India Meteorological Department predicted the deep depression to move towards the West Bengal–North Odisha coast, issuing a red warning for heavy rainfall in specific districts.

The IMD also forecasted heavy rainfall across several other districts in Odisha, prompting continuous monitoring by the State Emergency Operation Centre and District Emergency Operation Centres. Despite receiving above-average rainfall since July 1, major rivers in the state are flowing below warning levels with no reported incidents. District administrations have activated precautionary measures, including evacuation plans and relief distribution, to address any potential flood-related issues.

Reaffirming the government’s dedication to public safety, Pujari assured that all departments are collaborating closely and every district is prepared for any weather-related scenarios. Continuous monitoring on a 24×7 basis is in place, ensuring a prompt response to any emerging situations.
