Odisha’s Animesh Kujur broke the national men’s 100m record during the 29th National Senior Athletics Federation Competitions in Ranchi, earning a place in the Glasgow Commonwealth Games. Kujur, 22, clocked 10.15 seconds in the semifinals, surpassing the previous record of 10.16 seconds required for CWG qualification.
In a thrilling display of talent, Kujur and Gurindervir Singh both outperformed the national record in the men’s 100m sprint. Singh clocked 10.17 seconds, setting the stage for Kujur to reclaim his record with a time of 10.15 seconds. Kujur expressed his joy, attributing his success to hard work.
Additionally, Seema achieved the CWG qualification mark in the women’s discus throw with a winning distance of 57.29m, surpassing the required 56.85m mark. The competition also saw Ancy Sojan emerging victorious in the women’s long jump, setting a new meet record of 6.75m.
Results from the first day included Deepak Bhatt winning the men’s 10,000m race in 29:42.93 seconds and Ravina Gayakwad clinching the women’s 10,000m race in 35:30.98 seconds. The event showcased remarkable performances across various disciplines, setting the stage for an exciting competition ahead.
