The Odisha Vigilance carried out searches at various locations linked to state government officials, including a forester and a junior engineer, on allegations of acquiring disproportionate assets. Assets worth crores of rupees, including properties, gold, silver, cash, and vehicles, were discovered during the searches at properties belonging to Niranjan Satapathy, a Forester, and Nihar Ranjan Sarkar, a Junior Engineer. The searches were conducted based on search warrants issued by the Vigilance Court of Special Judge in Bhubaneswar.
Five teams of the state Vigilance, comprising Deputy Superintendents of Police, Inspectors, and supporting staff, conducted simultaneous house searches at multiple locations. The searches revealed substantial assets owned by Satapathy and Sarkar, leading to suspicions of more undisclosed assets. The anti-corruption team is continuing its searches at properties linked to the accused officials to uncover further assets. The officials were found in possession of assets such as buildings, plots, deposits, vehicles, and household articles, raising concerns of corruption and illegal wealth accumulation.
The search operations were part of the ongoing efforts to crack down on corrupt public servants in Odisha. The Vigilance officials are committed to investigating and prosecuting individuals involved in corruption and acquiring assets beyond their known sources of income. The searches at the properties of the forester and junior engineer have brought to light significant discrepancies between their assets and legitimate earnings, highlighting the need for stringent anti-corruption measures in the state.
