Odisha’s coastline is undergoing a significant transformation with the construction of the new 160.18 km Rameshwar–Paradeep Coastal Highway project. This initiative, led by the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways, comes with a total capital cost of Rs 8,300.79 crore. The project aims to enhance travel efficiency, safety, and convenience for commuters.
The highway project encompasses a 4-lane access-controlled highway from Rameshwar to Konark, followed by a 2-lane highway with paved shoulders from Konark to Paradeep. With a design speed of 100 km/hour, the corridor is expected to reduce travel time between Rameshwar and Paradeep by approximately 2.5 hours. This improvement will not only benefit passenger travel but also boost freight connectivity significantly.
Aligned with the principles of PM GatiShakti, the project will link 9 economic nodes and 5 logistics nodes, bolstering Odisha’s economic network. It will facilitate better access to key hubs like Paradeep Port, Puri Railway Station, Puri Airport, and other regional economic centers.
The highway’s route will traverse through Khurda, Puri, Kendrapada, and Jagatsinghpur districts, seamlessly connecting vital cultural, religious, tourism, and economic destinations. This connectivity will strengthen the link between iconic sites such as the Jagannath Temple in Puri, the Konark Sun Temple, and the Ramchandi Temple, facilitating pilgrimage journeys for millions of devotees visiting Odisha annually.
