Jammu and Kashmir’s Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah, expressed his desire to restore Kashmir’s prominence in cinematic production during a review meeting for the 1st International Film Festival of Jammu & Kashmir (IFFJK)-2026. The festival aims to revive the region’s cinematic heritage through storytelling and showcasing its cultural richness and creative talent.
Abdullah emphasized the festival’s potential to attract global filmmakers, artists, and cinema enthusiasts, promoting J&K’s landscapes and cultural traditions. He highlighted the festival’s role as a cultural and economic platform, aiming to boost tourism, investment, employment, and creative industries in the region.
The Chief Minister stressed the importance of integrating local creative professionals into the festival, fostering networking opportunities and collaborations. He also called for interactions between local talent and national/international industry experts to enhance skills and promote innovation in filmmaking. Additionally, Abdullah proposed honoring individuals who have contributed significantly to J&K’s cinematic legacy.
