The Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) kicked off the 7th ONGC Para Games 2026 at Thyagaraj Stadium in New Delhi. Around 300 Divyang athletes from eight oil and gas public sector undertakings are participating in this four-day event. The tournament, organized by ONGC, has brought together employee-athletes from various PSUs including IOCL, HPCL, BPCL, EIL, GAIL, OIL, and MRPL.
Participants will engage in various para sports disciplines during the event, which aims to offer an inclusive sporting platform for Divyang employees in the oil and gas sector. ONGC Director (Production) Pankaj Kumar expressed the significance of the Para Games in acknowledging and celebrating the unique abilities of Divyang colleagues. He emphasized the importance of inclusion as a strength that enhances organizational performance in sectors like oil and gas.
During the opening ceremony, Managing Director of ONGC Videsh Limited, Rajarshi Gupta, praised the athletes for their determination and highlighted the value of sustained effort and determination. ONGC Director (HR) Manish Patil underscored the positive impact of sports in character development and fostering an inclusive culture. He noted the growth of the Para Games over the years, emphasizing how such initiatives boost confidence, belonging, and engagement among employees.
The 2026 edition of the Para Games will include competitions in athletics, badminton, table tennis, and wheelchair racing. Athletes will compete in various categories, such as hearing and speech impairment, visual impairment, upper and lower limb conditions, and wheelchair events. The event will also see the participation of national and international para-sportspersons.
