Leader of Opposition in the Punjab Vidhan Sabha, Partap Singh Bajwa, criticized the Bhagwant Mann-led Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government for allegedly undermining the democratic mandate during the Qadian Municipal Council President election. Bajwa highlighted that the Congress had a numerical advantage in the Municipal Council and was ready to democratically elect its President.

With the support of seven municipal wards and the local MLA’s vote, the Congress had the backing of eight out of the 15 Council members, enough to establish leadership. Bajwa expressed disappointment over the alleged interference by the AAP government, accusing it of obstructing the democratic process.

Bajwa condemned the reported incidents of Congress Councillors being kidnapped and detained, despite the High Court’s observer overseeing the election process. He demanded accountability from the authorities responsible for the alleged violations and called for a thorough investigation into the matter.
