Mounting a strong critique against the ruling Left in Kerala, Leader of the Opposition, V.D. Satheesan, labeled the government’s progress report as a “bundle of lies.” Satheesan accused the government of exaggerating key achievements and concealing major failures in preparation for the upcoming April 9 Assembly elections.
Satheesan highlighted discrepancies in the government’s housing claims, noting that while five lakh houses were promised in 2016, only about 4.5 lakh were constructed over a decade. In contrast, he praised the previous government for completing nearly five lakh houses in just five years.
The Opposition leader also criticized the LDF for not fulfilling welfare promises, citing unmet commitments to increase social security pensions and ensure a support price for rubber. He further alleged a decline in subsidies for fishermen and questioned the implementation of a Rs 12,000 crore package for the sector.
Accusing Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan of wrongly taking credit for infrastructure projects like the Vizhinjam port, Satheesan claimed that such initiatives were started under the UDF government. He also pointed out unresolved land issues in Idukki and highlighted governance challenges such as university vacancies and agricultural income declines.
