Leader of Opposition in Kerala Assembly V.D. Satheesan addressed the controversy surrounding a photo of Congress leader Sonia Gandhi with Unnikrishnan Potti, a key figure in the Sabarimala gold heist case. Satheesan criticized Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan’s accusations as an attempt by the CPI(M) to divert attention from more pressing government issues.
Satheesan emphasized that the focus on the photo controversy was a deliberate strategy to overshadow the alleged gold theft at Sabarimala. He dismissed the Chief Minister’s insinuations, highlighting that meeting Sonia Gandhi was not unusual and could be done by anyone with an appointment.
The opposition leader pointed out the hypocrisy in the uproar, noting that taking a photo with the Chief Minister was not considered extraordinary either. Satheesan accused the CPI(M) of using the photo controversy to shield its leaders involved in the Sabarimala gold theft case and criticized the Chief Minister’s handling of the situation.
Satheesan’s response reflects the Congress party’s efforts to steer the conversation back to corruption allegations, while the CPI(M) aims to maintain a focus on political optics.
