Several Opposition Members of Parliament in both the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha have submitted adjournment motion notices, urging an immediate discussion on the alleged “brutal, unprovoked, disproportionate” use of force by the Delhi Police and security personnel during a student protest at Jantar Mantar on July 20.
The protest, organized by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), saw a large ‘Sansad Chalo’ demonstration where students voiced concerns over NEET paper leaks and demanded the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, who later resigned on July 25. The peaceful protest turned violent, leading to clashes and injuries among protesters and police.
Congress MPs like K.C. Venugopal and Manickam Tagore submitted adjournment motion notices in the Lok Sabha, condemning the use of “excessive and lethal force” by security personnel, including the use of pellet guns and shock batons. In the Rajya Sabha, Congress’ Syed Naseer Hussain called for a discussion on the alleged excessive force used against protesting students.
DMK MP T.R. Baalu also demanded an immediate ban on NEET and an investigation into the reported use of lethal weapons against students at Jantar Mantar. Concurrently, the Central government plans to introduce the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Amendment Bill, 2026, in Parliament to address paper leaks and exam malpractices.
