More than 12.48 lakh Enumeration Forms were handed out to voters in Karnataka on the first day of the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls. This covered 2.25% of the state’s 5.54 crore registered electorate. On the opening day, 291 deceased and 116 shifted electors were identified.
The Chief Electoral Officer’s daily press release revealed that 116 electors had permanently shifted residence, 291 were deceased, and 77 were already enrolled elsewhere. Additionally, 47,817 forms were digitized, accounting for 0.09% of the electorate, and 6,840 voters submitted their forms online, representing 0.01% of the total electorate.
The Special Intensive Revision began across Karnataka with Booth Level Officers distributing Enumeration Forms to eligible voters. The ongoing exercise covers all 5,54,32,314 registered electors in the state. Enumeration and digitization will continue from June 30 to July 29.
The CEO’s office reported that 91.61% of electors have been mapped, and printed Enumeration Forms have been provided to Booth Level Officers for distribution. Preliminary field data showed 488 cases marked under ASDDO, with two electors unreachable during visits. The revision will run until July 29, with the draft electoral roll set for publication on August 5.
Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar initiated the Special Intensive Revision by filling his Enumeration Form and emphasized the importance of voter registration for accessing government benefits. Booker Prize-winning author Banu Mushtaq described the exercise as simple and essential, dispelling fears of citizen harassment and urging officials to guide the public through the process.
