The total number of accounts in Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY) has reached 58.63 crore, with deposits exceeding Rs 3.08 lakh crore as of July 1, 2026. This reflects the success of the scheme aimed at promoting financial inclusion in the country. Out of these accounts, 55.74% belong to women, and 77.80% have been opened in rural and semi-urban areas that previously lacked banking services, according to Minister of State in the Ministry of Finance Pankaj Chaudhary.

The National Mission for Financial Inclusion (NMFI) was launched in August 2014 by the Government to ensure universal banking services for every unbanked household. The mission focuses on banking the unbanked, securing the unsecured, and funding the unfunded, aiming to include marginalized and underserved communities.

Under NMFI, various schemes are operational, including Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana (PMJJBY) with 27.84 crore enrolments as of July 1, 2026, offering a life insurance cover of Rs 2 lakh for any cause of death. Additionally, Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana (PMSBY) has seen 58.78 crore cumulative enrolments, providing accidental cover for death or disability.

The Atal Pension Yojana (APY) has garnered 9.29 crore enrolments to offer a monthly pension to eligible subscribers. Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana (PMMY) has sanctioned 59.14 crore loans amounting to Rs 41.71 lakh crore to provide collateral-free finance to micro and small business units for income-generating activities. Under the Stand-Up India Scheme (SUPI), 2.75 lakh loans worth Rs 62,790 crore have been sanctioned to Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe, and women entrepreneurs for setting up projects in various sectors.
