An own goal by Pritam Kotal was the deciding factor as Mumbai City FC kicked off their Indian Super League (ISL) 2025-26 season with a 1-0 win over Chennaiyin FC at the Mumbai Football Arena. The match, which saw both teams struggling to dominate midfield, witnessed limited scoring opportunities in the first half. Mumbai’s Brandon Fernandes and Lallianzuala Chhangte combined well, but Chennaiyin’s defensive efforts kept the scoreline level.

Chennaiyin’s offensive strategy relied heavily on long balls to Irfan Yadwad and Iñigo Martín, but Mumbai City’s defense remained solid, thwarting numerous corner kicks. The second half saw Mumbai City FC taking the lead through an own goal by Pritam Kotal, causing a shift in momentum. Despite Chennaiyin’s efforts to equalize with a flurry of corner kicks, Mumbai City’s defense stood firm, securing the victory.

The match concluded with Mumbai City FC maintaining their 1-0 lead, clinching all three points in front of their home supporters. Akash Mishra of Mumbai City was named the Player of the Match for his standout performance.
