Former Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chief secretary Arbab Shehzad Khan announced that a Pakistan-Afghanistan peace jirga is scheduled for March 31 in Peshawar. The aim is to encourage the leadership of both nations to reduce tensions and prioritize peace. The event, organized by Aspire Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Qaumi Islahi Tehreek, will bring together national and political leaders, tribal elders, religious scholars, and media representatives from both regions.
Arbab Shehzad Khan stressed the importance of dialogue over conflict, emphasizing the need to address issues through peaceful means. The jirga will focus on fostering sustainable peace through mutual respect, confidence-building measures, and negotiations. It aims to establish a joint action plan to enhance peace, stability, and dialogue between Pakistan and Afghanistan.
The forum will call on the leadership of both countries to de-escalate tensions and prioritize peaceful resolutions. Following the jirga, a joint declaration supporting peace will be issued and forwarded to the governments of Pakistan and Afghanistan. Arbab Shehzad Khan expressed hope that the international community would support efforts to bring Afghan authorities to the negotiating table with Pakistan, highlighting the impact of ongoing tensions on the people of both nations.
