Mohyuddin Ahmad Wani, the newly appointed interim president of the Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF), has revoked the two-year ban imposed on national team captain Ammad Shakeel Butt. The ban was put in place by outgoing PHF chief Tariq Hussain Bugti following allegations of mismanagement during the team’s participation in the FIH Pro League in Australia.
Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif accepted Bugti’s resignation and appointed Mohyuddin Ahmed Wani as the ad-hoc president of the federation. The decision to lift the ban on Butt comes amidst controversy surrounding the team’s tour of Australia, where accommodation issues led to discomfort among players.
Interim president Wani emphasized that transparency and fairness would be the guiding principles during his tenure. Despite facing criticism for poor performance in the FIH Pro League, the team is set to continue with the same lineup for their upcoming tour to Egypt.
Pakistan Cricket Board chairman Mohsin Naqvi met with the hockey players, assuring Butt that there was no ban in place and confirming the team’s travel plans.
