Pakistan is reportedly considering appointing former captain Sarfaraz Ahmed as the head coach for the upcoming two-Test series in Bangladesh in May. The position has been vacant since Azhar Mahmood’s contract ended in December last year. Sarfaraz Ahmed, who has no prior coaching experience, has been approached by the Pakistan Cricket Board chairman for the role.
According to sources, Sarfaraz Ahmed has agreed to work with Shan Masood as the Test team captain. This decision is aimed at improving Pakistan’s ninth-place ranking in the World Test Championship. The former head coach, Misbah-ul-Haq, was another option but was removed from his position in 2019-20.
Former Pakistan skipper Shahid Afridi has suggested that Younis Khan, with his impressive Test career, should be appointed as the Test coach. Afridi believes Khan’s experience as a top-order batsman makes him a suitable candidate for the role. Pakistan is set to play Test matches in the West Indies in July and in England in August.
