Pakistan PM’s Social Media Post on Iran Triggers Controversy

Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s social media post urging US President Donald Trump to delay military action against Iran sparked controversy due to a drafting error hinting at external authorship. The post on X requested a two-week extension for diplomacy in the West Asia conflict. Screenshots of the post’s edit history revealed a line saying “Draft – Pakistan’s PM Message on X,” which was later removed.

The incident raised questions about the message’s authorship, with speculations that it might not have been written by Sharif himself. The post tagged senior US officials, including Trump, Vice President J.D. Vance, and Secretary of State Marco Rubio, leading to further conjecture about potential coordination.

Trump referenced Sharif’s request as a reason for postponing planned strikes on Iran for two weeks. In response, Sharif emphasized the need for diplomacy to proceed and called for Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz as a goodwill gesture. Despite the controversy, Sharif’s office did not immediately address inquiries regarding the post’s drafting error.

Amid escalating online speculation, some users suggested US officials might have provided the wording, while others attributed it to a clerical or staff mistake. The timing of the post, just before Trump’s Iran deal deadline, and Pakistan’s role as a mediator in the crisis added significance to the unfolding situation.
