Pakistan’s Support for Khalistan Movement Exposes Hypocrisy, Say Officials

Pakistan’s backing of the Khalistan movement aims to position itself as a supporter of Sikhs, portraying India as an aggressor against the Sikh community. The recent demolition of Gurdwara Sri Guru Singh Sabha Sahib near Lahore has drawn attention to this narrative. The Sikhs, who revere this Gurdwara for its historical significance, protested against its unauthorized destruction.

Officials highlight that Sikhs in Pakistan face persecution, with incidents like targeted killings, abductions, and forced conversions. The dwindling Sikh population in Pakistan, dropping from over 2 lakh pre-Partition to 15,000 currently, underscores their vulnerability. Attacks on Sikh religious sites, like the recent demolition of Gurdwara Chobacha Sahib, have raised concerns.

The Janam Asthan at Nankana Sahib, birthplace of Guru Nanak, has faced threats and attacks, reflecting the tense environment surrounding Sikh shrines in Pakistan. The maintenance and protection of Sikh shrines have been inadequate, with some being illegally occupied or demolished due to neglect. Despite outcry from the Sikh community, Khalistan terror groups persist, receiving training alongside organizations like Lashkar-e-Tayiba.
