Paralympic gold medalist Avani Lekhara expressed deep sorrow over the death of renowned shooter and coach Jaspal Rana, who played a significant role in Indian shooting. Lekhara praised Rana for his contributions, stating that he was crucial in establishing India’s prowess in shooting, both as an athlete and a coach. She extended her heartfelt condolences to his family, loved ones, and the entire Indian shooting community.
Jaspal Rana, a prominent pistol shooter, passed away in New Delhi at the age of 49, reportedly due to complications following a recent stent procedure. Known for his exceptional competitive career, Rana transitioned to coaching and became a highly influential figure in Indian shooting. He was instrumental in nurturing young talents at his academy in Dehradun before joining the national coaching setup.
Following his return from the ISSF World Cup in Munich, where India secured four medals, Rana fell ill and underwent a stent procedure at Max Hospital in Delhi. Unfortunately, he succumbed to heart-related issues. His mortal remains were placed at his Dehradun residence for family, friends, athletes, and well-wishers to pay their respects with full state honors. Rana’s coaching legacy was highlighted by his role in guiding Manu Bhaker to a historic achievement at the Paris Olympics, earning him recognition as India’s top pistol shooter turned coach.
