A passenger train bound for Patna experienced a massive fire in one of its coaches near Bihar’s Sasaram railway station at 6 a.m. The fire, suspected to be caused by a short circuit, did not result in any injuries. The coach caught fire while stationed at Sasaram railway station just before its departure time.
Visuals from the scene depicted thick smoke billowing from the affected train coach. Railway authorities, along with the Fire Brigade team, swiftly managed to control the fire upon arrival. Despite their efforts, one coach of the Sasaram-Patna Passenger train was destroyed due to the severity of the blaze.
Following the incident, safety protocols were initiated to detach the damaged coach, reschedule the train, and conduct a thorough inspection before its departure. This event occurred a day after a similar fire broke out in two rear coaches of the Delhi-bound Rajdhani Express near Kota, Rajasthan. No injuries were reported in that incident as well.
Railway officials ensured the safe deboarding of all passengers from the affected coach and promptly shut down the Overhead Equipment power supply to avert further risks. The built-in safety mechanisms of the coach functioned effectively, leading to the automatic halt of the train post-incident. In response to these events, a nationwide audit of fire safety systems in coaches and railway infrastructure has been initiated to enhance safety measures and prevent future occurrences.
