Punjab Kings (PBKS) captain Shreyas Iyer has been fined for a slow over-rate during the IPL match against Gujarat Titans. Despite this, PBKS emerged victorious by three wickets, with Cooper Connolly’s impressive 72-run knock securing the win.
Iyer’s team faced consequences for the slow over-rate during the first innings, violating the IPL’s code of conduct. This led to a fine of Rs. 12 lakhs for Iyer, as it was the team’s first offence under the relevant article.
Debutant Connolly played a crucial role in PBKS’s win with a stellar performance. Despite initial challenges, Connolly, along with Prabhsimran Singh, steered the team to victory with a composed innings. The disciplined bowling from Punjab, especially by Vijaykumar Vyshak and Yuzvendra Chahal, restricted Gujarat’s scoring opportunities.
Gujarat, led by Shubman Gill and Jos Buttler, posted 162/6, but failed to accelerate further due to Punjab’s strong bowling. Connolly’s debut brilliance overshadowed Gujarat’s middle-order struggles, securing the win for PBKS.
PBKS will now face Chennai Super Kings in their upcoming match at the MA Chidambaram Stadium.
