A recent petition has been filed in the Supreme Court advocating for the immediate shift of the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET-UG) to a Computer-Based Test (CBT) format. The petition highlights concerns over paper leaks and security lapses in the current pen-and-paper examination system managed by the National Testing Agency (NTA). It emphasizes the vulnerabilities of the existing system due to physical logistics chains and third-party operational mechanisms.
The plea stresses the need for a transition to a fully computer-based test mode, citing the Union government’s announcement of such a move starting from 2027. It argues that the Computer-Based Test mode would enhance security through encrypted delivery systems, digital audit trails, biometric verification, and real-time security protocols. The petition urges the immediate implementation of the CBT mode for the upcoming re-test scheduled for June 21 instead of the traditional pen-and-paper format.
The petition also calls for the establishment of a new independent National Examination Authority with advanced technological safeguards to replace the NTA. It seeks the formation of a high-level monitoring committee comprising experts from various fields to recommend structural reforms for the secure conduct of national-level examinations. Additionally, the plea demands the adoption of encrypted digital paper transmission systems, biometric verification, AI-based surveillance, and stringent cybersecurity measures in national examinations.
The petition further requests strict criminal prosecution and expedited investigation against individuals and entities involved in examination leaks and cheating activities. It urges the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to provide a status report to the Supreme Court within four weeks regarding the investigation into the alleged NEET-UG 2026 paper leak. The petition emphasizes the need for urgent structural reforms to address the recurring controversies and failures in the conduct of NEET examinations.
