Pistol shooters are gearing up to compete at the Dr. Karni Singh Shooting Ranges in Delhi for the Asian Championship Rifle/Pistol. The competition kicks off tomorrow with medals up for grabs in the 10m Air pistol events. Indian shooters, including renowned names like Samrat Rana, Suruchi Singh, Manu Bhaker, and Esha Singh, aim to make a strong start in the tournament.
On Wednesday, four finals are scheduled, encompassing senior men’s and women’s events, as well as the finals for Junior and Youth men. Notable contenders like Suruchi Singh, Samrat Rana, Manu Bhaker, and Esha Singh are expected to vie for the gold medal in the women’s category.
Among the competitors, Ho Ching Shing from Hong Kong, a world silver medallist and ranked fourth globally, stands out as a favorite in the women’s 10m air pistol event. Another contender to watch out for is Cheng Yen-Ching from Chinese Taipei, ranked 16th globally, who has shown promise in previous championships.
Leading the Indian men’s team is the current World Champion Samrat Rana, supported by Varun Tomar, ranked second globally, and Sharvan Kumar, who finished 12th in the World Championship. The competition is expected to be fierce with strong contenders like Valeriy Rakhimzhan from Kazakhstan, Hsieh Hsiang-Chen from Chinese Taipei, and Mukhammad Kamalov from Uzbekistan in the mix.
Junior and youth athletes will also showcase their skills, with a large Indian squad of 118 athletes participating. Kazakhstan follows with the second-largest contingent of 35 athletes. Teams from Korea, Japan, Chinese Taipei, Vietnam, and Hong Kong are also anticipated to deliver commendable performances.
