Former Indian cricketer Piyush Chawla remains confident that Gujarat Titans (GT) can secure a spot in the Indian Premier League (IPL) playoffs by finishing in the top two positions. Despite a defeat against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), Chawla believes GT still controls their fate.
KKR posted a formidable total of 247/2 in 20 overs in the match, with Finn Allen scoring 93 runs off 35 balls and Angkrish Raghuvanshi contributing 82 runs from 44 balls. In response, GT, led by captain Shubman Gill’s 85-run innings, fell short and managed only 218 runs.
Chawla emphasized the importance for GT to win their upcoming match against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) to secure a top-two finish. He stressed the significance of controlling their destiny rather than relying on other teams’ results or net run rate calculations.
According to Chawla, chasing a high target like 248 was always going to be a tough task for GT due to their batting lineup’s limitations. He highlighted that while players like Gill and Sai Sudharsan excel in building partnerships, the team lacks the explosive power needed for such massive run chases.
