Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal engaged in discussions with top Finnish technology and industrial firms in Helsinki, encouraging them to enhance their presence in India through increased manufacturing, research, development, and exports. In a meeting with Nokia Corporation’s President and CEO, Justin Hotard, Goyal explored opportunities to expand Nokia’s manufacturing operations in India, boost exports, and invest more in research and development. The minister emphasized the importance of telecom network security and building reliable supply chains during the discussions.
Goyal also highlighted India’s engineering talent, the growing telecom market, and the ‘Make in India’ initiative, inviting Nokia to strengthen the innovation partnership between India and Finland. The talks with Nokia encompassed collaborations in advanced telecommunications such as 5G and 6G technologies, digital infrastructure, electronics manufacturing, and innovation initiatives. The meeting underscored Nokia’s significant presence in India’s telecom sector and explored avenues for further cooperation in emerging digital technologies.
Furthermore, Goyal met with Jussi Herlin, Vice Chair, and Ilkka Hara, Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of KONE Corporation, to discuss expanding the company’s manufacturing, research, development, and innovation activities in India. The discussions centered on increasing KONE’s footprint in India and enhancing exports to global markets. Goyal encouraged KONE to capitalize on the ‘Make in India’ initiative, emphasizing the potential for growth by aligning with India’s development trajectory.
