Though the Indian Premier League (IPL) and the Pakistan Super League (PSL) are vastly different in potential and influence, recent player movements have linked them. Blessing Muzarabani, Dasun Shanaka, Spencer Johnson, and Gudakesh Motie have switched from PSL to IPL, causing displeasure to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and its chairman Mohsin Naqvi. Muzarabani, a Zimbabwean player, moved from Islamabad United in PSL to Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL just before the start of PSL.
Rajasthan Royals signed Sri Lankan player Dasun Shanaka for the IPL 2026 season, following his unsold status in the previous IPL auction. Shanaka, who was set to play for Lahore Qalandars in PSL, became the second player after Muzarabani to switch to IPL this year. Additionally, Chennai Super Kings enlisted Australian pacer Spenser Johnson as a replacement, who withdrew from PSL due to personal reasons.
The trend of players moving from PSL to IPL continued with South African player Corbin Bosch signing with Mumbai Indians. The PCB Chairman expressed discontent over these moves, threatening legal action. However, the allure of IPL’s lucrative deals, competitive cricket, and global recognition entices players to make the switch for better prospects.
