A tragic road accident in Bihar’s Katihar district resulted in 10 fatalities and 25 injuries on Saturday. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar expressed deep condolences to the affected families. PM Modi announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh from the PMNRF for the next of kin of each deceased and Rs 50,000 for the injured.

Bihar CM Nitish Kumar also offered Rs 2 lakh as ex-gratia for each deceased family from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund and Rs 50,000 for each injured person. He ensured proper medical treatment for the injured and directed officials to oversee relief efforts. Eyewitnesses reported a collision between a bus and a pickup vehicle at Basgada Chowk on National Highway-31, resulting in severe damage.

The impact of the collision was devastating, leaving both vehicles severely damaged. Local authorities and police rushed the injured to nearby health facilities, including the Katihar Sadar Hospital. Hospital staff are on high alert, prioritizing treatment for the injured, some of whom are in critical condition. The incident underscores the pressing need for stricter road safety measures to prevent such tragedies.
