Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed sorrow over a tragic road accident in Surat district, Gujarat, which resulted in seven fatalities and around 15 injuries. He offered financial support to the victims and their families through the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF). PM Modi, in a social media post, expressed deep sadness over the incident and extended sympathies to the affected families.

The Prime Minister declared a compensation of Rs 2 lakh from the PMNRF for the families of each deceased person and Rs 50,000 for the injured individuals. The accident occurred due to a collision involving two Maharashtra State Transport buses and a tractor near Uva-Manekpor village in Bardoli taluka of Surat district. One bus, carrying 25 to 26 passengers, collided with a tractor before crashing head-on into another bus with around 33 to 35 passengers.

Rescue operations were hindered as one of the buses overturned multiple times and caught fire, trapping passengers inside. Emergency services, including fire brigade personnel, police, and ambulances, responded promptly to the scene. The authorities have confirmed seven fatalities and transferred around 15 injured passengers to various hospitals for medical treatment.

The collision caused significant traffic congestion on the highway for several hours, prompting a police investigation to ascertain the circumstances leading to the accident.
