Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed condolences for the lives lost in the Andhra Pradesh bus accident and declared a compensation of Rs 2 lakhs for each affected family. The tragic incident occurred when a private travel bus collided with a tipper truck in Markapuram district, resulting in 14 fatalities and 15 injuries due to a fire outbreak. The Prime Minister’s Office conveyed sympathies to the affected families and wished a speedy recovery for the injured individuals.
The Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund will provide Rs 2 lakh to the families of the deceased and Rs 50,000 to the injured as part of the ex-gratia assistance. The collision, which led to the complete destruction of both vehicles in flames, took place near Rayavaram early in the morning. The bus, operated by Harikrishna Travels, was carrying 35 passengers from Hyderabad to Pamuru when the accident occurred.
Among the passengers were women and children, with some sustaining critical injuries, hinting at a possible rise in the death toll. Prompt response from authorities saw 15 injured passengers receiving medical attention at the government hospital in Markapuram. The victims hailed from Kanigiri and Pamuru, while the tipper truck was en route to Markapuram from Chimakurthy with a load of concrete.
Following the incident, Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu expressed shock and directed officials to ensure the best possible care for the injured. He also instructed a detailed investigation into the accident and requested a comprehensive report on the matter. The police and firefighting teams swiftly arrived at the scene, deploying three fire engines to extinguish the blaze and conduct rescue operations.
