Prime Minister Narendra Modi declared a compensation of Rs 2 lakh for each of the nine individuals who lost their lives in the roof collapse of an under-construction warehouse in Kolkata’s Taratala area. Additionally, he pledged Rs 50,000 for the 20 injured individuals. The PMO stated that the state government is actively assisting those affected by the tragic incident.

The Kolkata Police reported that the death toll has risen to nine, with 20 workers sustaining injuries and receiving treatment at SSKM Hospital. Two of the injured are in critical condition. Five individuals have been arrested in connection with the collapse, and a Special Investigation Team has been formed by the Kolkata Police to investigate the matter.

The collapse occurred in south Kolkata, trapping around 40 workers inside the structure. Rescue operations, involving personnel from various agencies including the Indian Army, NDRF, and fire services, have been ongoing for nearly 24 hours. Efforts are still underway to locate and rescue the remaining trapped workers using specialized equipment and sniffer dogs.
