Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised Indian youth and women athletes for their outstanding achievements in global sports during his ‘Mann Ki Baat’ address. He specifically highlighted PV Sindhu’s historic win at the Japan Open and the Indian women’s cricket team’s Test match victory at Lord’s. Modi expressed immense pride in the country’s sports performance and recognized the significant role of ‘Nari Shakti’.

PV Sindhu’s victory at the Japan Open marked a significant milestone in her career, ending a seven-year wait for a Super 750 or above title. This win, her biggest Tour title since 2018, added to her previous triumphs at the World Tour Finals and China Open. It was also her first BWF World Tour title post her Syed Modi win in December 2024.

In his address, PM Modi lauded PV Sindhu as the first Indian to clinch the Japan Open title in badminton, emphasizing the nation’s pride in her achievement. He also commended the Indian women’s cricket team for their historic Test victory at Lord’s, drawing parallels to India’s iconic 1983 Cricket World Cup win at the same venue.

India’s Test win at Lord’s marked their seventh victory in the last 11 Test matches, showcasing their dominance in red-ball cricket. The team’s unbeaten record in the longest format on English soil has further solidified their position in international cricket.
