Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended congratulations to Mette Frederiksen for securing her third consecutive term as Denmark’s Prime Minister. He emphasized the strong partnership between India and Denmark, rooted in mutual trust and shared values. PM Modi expressed eagerness to collaborate with Frederiksen to enhance the India-Denmark Green Strategic Partnership and boost bilateral cooperation.
Frederiksen announced the formation of a new four-party government after a 69-day coalition-building process, the longest in Denmark’s history. The cabinet will comprise the Social Democrats, the Socialist People’s Party, the Social Liberal Party, and the Moderates. Despite facing challenges during negotiations, Frederiksen stressed the necessity of a successful outcome.
In a recent meeting with King Frederik X, Frederiksen highlighted the complexities of the coalition-building process. The parliamentary elections in Denmark on March 24 saw the Social Democrats, led by Frederiksen, as the largest party but without a clear majority. This led to an extended period of negotiations to form a government.
During a meeting in Oslo, PM Modi and Frederiksen discussed the progress in bilateral relations, particularly in areas such as water resources, clean energy, shipping, and food processing. They explored opportunities for collaboration in FinTech, industries, defense, and innovation. PM Modi also encouraged Danish pension funds to increase investments in India, anticipating positive outcomes from the India-EU Free Trade Agreement.
