Indian Railways achieved a milestone as Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched India’s inaugural hydrogen fuel cell trainset in Jind, Haryana. This eco-friendly train, running between Jind and Sonipat, covers 90 km in just two hours, powered by a 3,200 HP hydrogen-based propulsion system. Emitting only water vapor, this train signifies a move towards sustainable and clean mobility.
By embracing indigenous technology and overseeing the entire process domestically, India now joins the league of nations operating hydrogen-powered trains. This development reflects a broader shift in India’s railway sector towards cleaner and more sustainable energy sources, transitioning away from traditional coal and steam-powered trains.
In addition to the hydrogen-powered train launch, PM Modi inaugurated a National Highway project worth over Rs 12,470 crore in Haryana. This project, along with the hydrogen train, marks significant steps towards enhancing green mobility and infrastructure development in the region.
PM Modi’s dedication of various highway projects, including the Delhi-Amritsar-Katra Expressway and other key road networks, underscores the government’s commitment to improving connectivity, reducing travel times, and boosting economic growth in the region.
