Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the General Pool Residential Accommodation (GPRA) Redevelopment Plan in Sarojini Nagar, New Delhi, and presented Type-5 quarters’ keys to female allottees. These redevelopment projects in Sarojini Nagar, Netaji Nagar, Kasturba Nagar, and Sriniwaspuri aim to modernize GPRA colonies for government employees and administrative offices. The projects, valued at Rs 15,200 crore, have been revamped through a self-sustainable financial model to avoid burdening the public exchequer.
The innovative financial model involves developing and monetizing a portion of the project area for commercial and residential use to fund the entire redevelopment. The revenue generated from this initiative supports the modernization of government housing, infrastructure, and public facilities. The plan will offer over 9,350 modern flats for government employees and create around 48 lakh square feet of office space to enhance administrative efficiency and generate monetization potential.
Later, PM Modi is set to inaugurate and lay the foundation stone for Delhi metro projects worth approximately Rs 18,300 crore. The new corridors, including the Majlis Park-Maujpur Babarpur (Pink Line) and Deepali Chowk-Majlis Park (Magenta Line), will benefit various areas in Delhi, such as Burari, Jagatpur-Wazirabad, Khajuri Khas, Bhajanpura, and Yamuna Vihar. Additionally, the foundation stone will be laid for three new corridors under Phase V-A of the Delhi Metro, improving connectivity for residents traveling between Noida, South Delhi, and the airport.
