Prime Minister Narendra Modi presented Seychelles with a ‘Made in India’ Fast Patrol Vessel (FPV) PS LESPWAR, six ambulances, 10 utility vehicles, and five laser radial boats to enhance the country’s maritime surveillance and Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) priorities. The ceremony, attended by Seychelles President Patrick Herminie, occurred at the Seychelles Coast Guard Base in Victoria during PM Modi’s State Visit to the island nation. The FPV was constructed by Goa Shipyard Limited.
In a significant gesture, PM Modi handed over the FPV PS LESPWAR to President Dr. Patrick Herminie, emphasizing the vessel’s role in strengthening Seychelles’ maritime surveillance and EEZ patrol capabilities. Additionally, six ambulances, 10 utility vehicles, and five laser radial boats were provided to further bolster Seychelles’ development and security. The Ministry of External Affairs highlighted the ongoing defense partnership between India and Seychelles, guided by India’s Vision MAHASAGAR, aimed at enhancing security and stability in the Indian Ocean region.
During his visit to Seychelles, PM Modi participated in the Golden Jubilee celebrations of the country’s National Day as the Guest of Honour, aiming to reinforce bilateral cooperation. The visit included a Guard of Honour inspection where the national anthems of both countries were played, followed by a cultural welcome featuring traditional Seychellois moutya and Nrutya, an authentic folk dance from Kutch, Gujarat, performed in honor of PM Modi. The folk performance showcased the cultural heritage and independence spirit of Seychelles and India.
This visit marks PM Modi’s second State Visit to Seychelles, with President Herminie having previously visited India earlier this year. The President’s office highlighted India’s significant role as one of Seychelles’ closest and most valued development partners, supporting various infrastructure, healthcare, education, and community development projects while collaborating to promote peace, security, and stability in the Indian Ocean region. The visit underscores the enduring friendship and partnership between Seychelles and India, which have maintained diplomatic relations since Seychelles gained independence in 1976.
