Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in his ‘Mann Ki Baat’ address, praised Dr. Ronaldo Laishram from Manipur for his global achievements in the field of astronomy. Dr. Laishram’s discovery of a cluster of young galaxies, named the “Loktak Protocluster,” has brought international acclaim to Indian science and Manipur’s Loktak Lake. PM Modi emphasized the scientist’s ability to balance global success with a strong connection to his roots, inspiring young Indians to pursue excellence while honoring their heritage.

The Prime Minister highlighted Dr. Laishram’s dedication to his homeland, noting that despite working in Japan, he remains deeply connected to Manipur. By naming the celestial structure after Loktak Lake, known for its unique floating phumdis, Dr. Laishram has linked the natural beauty of Manipur to the vast expanse of space. PM Modi drew parallels between the floating phumdis and the young galaxies, symbolizing the interconnectedness of nature and the universe.

Recognizing the significance of Dr. Laishram’s achievement, PM Modi underscored that Loktak’s fame now extends beyond India, resonating in the realm of astronomical discoveries. The Prime Minister emphasized the pride that every Indian should feel in this accomplishment, emphasizing the importance of maintaining cultural roots while reaching for the stars. Dr. Laishram’s story serves as a beacon for aspiring young minds, illustrating that success and tradition can harmoniously coexist in the pursuit of excellence.
