Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during his monthly radio show ‘Mann Ki Baat,’ emphasized the government’s efforts to provide a “protective shield” to millions of families in India through insurance schemes. He shared the heartwarming story of a family in Nanded, Maharashtra, who arranged accident insurance for 3,500 villagers during a wedding, offering each individual a cover of Rs 1 lakh.
The Prime Minister commended the family’s initiative, recognizing the financial challenges families face after accidents and the significant support even a small aid can provide. He mentioned the success of government schemes like ‘Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana,’ which offers accidental insurance cover of up to Rs 2 lakh for an annual premium of just Rs 20, with over 58 crore people enrolled to date.
Additionally, PM Modi highlighted the importance of ‘Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana,’ which provides a Rs 2 lakh insurance cover to a person’s family in case of death, with an annual premium of Rs 436. He noted that over 27 crore people have joined this scheme, benefiting around 11 lakh families with assistance totaling approximately Rs 22,000 crore. The Prime Minister urged citizens to spread awareness about these schemes among their families for wider adoption.
