During the Somnath Amrut Mahotsav, Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tribute to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel for his efforts in restoring the Somnath Temple post-Independence. Earlier in the day, PM Modi took part in various ceremonies at the temple, including the Vishesh Maha Puja, the historic Kumbhabhishek, and Dhwajarohan rituals. The event marked 75 years since the reconstructed Somnath Temple was inaugurated by India’s first President, Dr. Rajendra Prasad, in 1951, following the leadership of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. PM Modi also unveiled a commemorative stamp and coin honoring the temple’s legacy.
Addressing a large gathering at the ‘Somnath Amrut Mahotsav’ in Gujarat, PM Modi criticized what he termed as “appeasement politics” and highlighted Jawaharlal Nehru’s opposition to the temple’s reconstruction post-Independence. He praised Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and Dr. Rajendra Prasad for their support in rebuilding the temple, emphasizing India’s reclaiming of its ancient glory and independent civilizational consciousness.
PM Modi commended Sardar Patel’s determination in the face of opposition during the temple’s reconstruction, underscoring the significance of the event in India’s history. He cautioned against divisive politics, urging a focus on national development and heritage in unison. The Prime Minister described the Somnath Amrut Mahotsav as not just a celebration of the past but an inspiration for India’s future generations.
